Technical Questions

What is MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s a standard way for AI assistants to connect to external services and access real-time information. See our What is MCP? page for a detailed explanation.

How often is the data updated?

The market data is updated in real-time, typically every few seconds. When you ask a question, you get the most current data available at that moment.

What cryptocurrencies are supported?

The MCP server supports hundreds of cryptocurrencies, including:

  • All major coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.)
  • Popular altcoins
  • DeFi tokens
  • Stablecoins
  • Most coins listed on major exchanges

If you ask about a specific cryptocurrency and it’s not available, the AI will let you know.

Setup Questions

Can I undo the setup if I don’t like it?

Yes! You can easily remove the MCP connector:

ChatGPT:

  • Go to Settings > Connectors
  • Find Crypto.com Market Data
  • Click Remove or Delete

Claude:

  • Open the configuration file
  • Delete the crypto-market-data section
  • Save and restart Claude

Will this affect my existing AI assistant usage?

No. Adding the MCP connector:

  • Doesn’t change how your AI assistant normally works
  • Only activates when you ask about cryptocurrency data
  • Doesn’t affect other conversations
  • Can be disabled anytime

Usage Questions

How do I know if the MCP server is being used?

When you ask a question that uses the MCP server, you might see:

  • A small indicator or icon showing external data is being fetched
  • The response includes very recent data (today’s date)
  • The AI mentions using “current” or “real-time” data
  • Response includes specific timestamps

Why am I still getting old data?

Possible reasons:

  1. The AI isn’t recognizing your question needs real-time data

    • Be more specific: “What’s the CURRENT price of Bitcoin?”
    • Use words like “now”, “today”, “latest”
  2. The connector isn’t enabled

    • Check settings to make sure it’s turned on
    • Restart the app
  3. You’re in an old conversation

    • Start a new chat
    • Try your question again

Can I ask about multiple cryptocurrencies at once?

Yes! You can ask things like:

  • “Show me the prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Cardano”
  • “What are the top 10 cryptocurrencies?”
  • “Compare Solana and Avalanche”

Does this work in all languages?

The MCP server returns data in English, but you can ask questions in any language your AI assistant supports. The AI will translate the data into your preferred language.
